The Leaf Hunt Box | A Cozy Fall Writing Adventure
(Preschool–Grade 5)
October’s Leaf Hunt Box – Available Now!
Featuring We're Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger
Children don't just notice fall. They collect it. Handfuls of leaves, a perfect acorn, a stick that absolutely had to come home. The Leaf Hunt Box turns that instinct into a cozy fall adventure, full of tearing, crumpling, acting and writing.
Inspired by We're Going on a Leaf Hunt, the rhythmic story of three friends who climb a mountain, wander through a forest, pass a waterfall and cross a lake gathering maple, birch, red oak and hickory leaves (until a skunk sends them racing home), this box invites your child to go on a leaf hunt of their own. They'll tear and crumple tissue paper into crinkly leaves, use them as props to act out the story, turn their own finds into a fall mobile or garland, and fill a window with leaf post-its about everything they love about fall.
Every activity quietly builds the fine motor foundation writing grows from. Tearing paper builds pinch strength and two-handed teamwork. Writing on a window builds shoulder strength and pencil control. And because the activities are open-ended, they meet each child where they are, from preschoolers making their first marks to older children who've grown reluctant about writing.
