If your child is enrolled in a California charter school that provides instructional funds for homeschooling or independent study, you can likely use those funds toward a Rooted in Writing subscription.
Every charter school runs a little differently — so the most important step is checking your own school's process. Here's what tends to be true across the board, and how to get us added.
How ordering usually works
Most charter schools have families place orders through their own ordering platform (like Homeschool Hub or similar).
Because we're a small vendor, we may not come up in your school's search results — and that's okay.
Here's the workaround:
Start your order in your charter school's ordering system.
Select "Other Vendor" (sometimes called "Other Product Vendor") when we don't appear in the list.
Enter our information & what you'd like to order. You can request our vendor details using the form below and we'll send everything you need.
Submit your order for approval. Your Homeschool Teacher or charter staff reviews and approves it — and once it's approved, we'll get your box on its way.
Many charter schools handle approval as the order is placed, so a vendor not being pre-listed usually isn't a problem. As Pacific Coast Academy puts it: product vendors don't have to be pre-approved — just order through "Other Product Vendor" and the vendor goes through approval as your order is placed.
Two things to know before you order
Choose a one-time or gift subscription — not recurring. Many charter schools don't approve recurring subscriptions, so when ordering through your school, please select the one-time or gift option. (You can always place another order next time.)
Approval is up to your school. The final decision rests with your charter school's Homeschool Teacher or responsible staff member. We've had orders approved before (more on that below), but your school's specific policies always come first.
A good fit for charter requirements
A couple of details that often matter to charter schools — and to you:
We're nonsectarian. Rooted in Writing boxes contain no religious content, and neither do the books we choose. That keeps us eligible under charter funding guidelines.
Our prompts align with Common Core. Each box includes writing prompts that meet the Common Core writing standards for grades TK–2, so the work your child creates can be saved and submitted as work samples for your charter's requirements.
Schools we've worked with
We've successfully had orders approved through Pacific Coast Academy — which means we'd likely be approved at similar charter schools, such as Cabrillo Point Academy, Mission Vista Academy, The Cottonwood School, and Sage Oak Charter Schools, among others.
That said, we can't promise approval at any specific school — so it's always worth a quick check of your own charter's policies & guidelines to confirm before you order.
