What is the Rooted in Writing Box?
Rooted in Writing is a monthly activity box that helps children ages 3–6 fall in love with writing — long before they're forming letters on a page. Each box is built around a brand-new picture book and includes 4–6 hands-on, screen-free activities, plus a simple guide that walks you through exactly what to do (and why it helps). Everything is included, with nothing extra to buy and no prep on your end. The activities are designed by an early-childhood educator to build the fine motor skills, early literacy foundations, and confidence that writing grows from — through play, storytelling, and time together. No worksheets, no screens, no pressure. Just joyful, meaningful moments that meet your child exactly where they are.
Who is the box designed for?
Rooted in Writing is designed for children ages 3–6 — the years when curiosity and language are really starting to bloom. That said, many older kids, especially reluctant writers, find their footing through our low-pressure, playful approach. Every child develops at their own pace, and you know yours best. The activities are open-ended by design, so you can simplify or stretch them to fit exactly where your child is right now.
Why is early writing so important?
Writing begins long before a child forms letters or spells words. Through playful, hands-on experiences — drawing, tracing, stamping, storytelling — young children build the hand strength, coordination, and focus that real writing depends on later. It's the foundation everything else is built on. Just as important, these early moments shape how a child feels about writing. When it's joyful and pressure-free, kids come to see themselves as storytellers — confident, capable, and eager to put their ideas into the world.

How does the subscription work?
It's simple, and everything's included from the start:
Choose your plan. Order a single box, or start a recurring subscription — monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual. Longer plans save you more, and you can cancel anytime.
Add a Seedling Set (optional). Have more than one child? Add our sibling set for $7 per box, so each child gets their own materials — no sharing required. You can add up to 4 per box.
Check out. Prices update automatically as you make your selections.
Watch for your box. It ships once a month, beautifully packaged with a picture book, all the activity materials, and a simple guide.
Enjoy. Open it up and dive into creative time together — no extra prep required.
What is the Seedling Set?
The Seedling Set is our sibling add-on, made for families who want to share the experience. For $7 per box, you'll receive an extra set of key materials so each child can dive into the fine motor and pre-writing activities on their own — no sharing required. You can add up to 4 Seedling Sets per box.
If I purchase multiple boxes in advance, will I get them all at once?
No — even with a quarterly, semi-annual, or annual plan, you'll still receive one box per month. That way, your child has time to fully explore and enjoy each month's theme before the next one arrives.
When will my box ship?
Boxes ship once a month, usually during the first week. You'll receive a tracking number by email as soon as yours is on its way.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is a flat $5 per box, anywhere in the U.S.
Here's how that looks by plan:
Monthly / 1 box — $5 per month
Quarterly / 3 boxes — $15 per quarter
Semi-annual / 6 boxes — $30 every six months
Annual / 12 boxes — $60 per year
We're a homeschooling family. Can we use our education funds to order from Rooted in Writing?
In most cases, yes. If your family receives funds through a state ESA, an Education Freedom Account (EFA), or a California charter school, you can likely put them toward a subscription. We're currently an approved vendor in Arizona, Arkansas, and New Hampshire, and we work with California charter families too.
How you order depends a little on your program. Most families either request an itemized invoice from us and pay through their program's portal (like ClassWallet), or order through their charter school's system. Many programs also offer a direct-pay option, so nothing comes out of your own pocket.
Our boxes are nonsectarian, and our writing prompts align with Common Core standards for grades TK–2 — which keeps us eligible under most funding guidelines and means your child's work can double as work samples where they're required.

What is your return and refund policy?
We want you to love your Rooted in Writing box. If something arrives damaged or incomplete, email us at rootedinwritingbox@gmail.com within 7 days of delivery and we'll make it right.
Because of the nature of our materials, we generally can't accept returns or offer refunds on boxes that have already shipped.
If you need to pause or cancel, just reach out before your next billing date.
Do you ship internationally?
Right now, we ship only within the United States — but we hope to expand in the future.
